Discovery of the Body
On January 11, 2013, the tranquil neighborhood of Covington Lane in Palm Coast, Florida, was shaken by a grim discovery. The decomposed body of 60-year-old Dennie Keith Cayton was found in a marshy area behind the residence at 16 Covington Lane, where he had been staying. The state of the remains suggested that Cayton had been deceased for several weeks, likely since around Christmas 2012. An autopsy later confirmed that he had been stabbed to death.
Identification and Investigation
Due to the advanced decomposition, immediate identification of the body was challenging. At the request of Dr. Predrag Bulic, the Medical Examiner for Florida's 23rd District, Cayton's remains were sent to the University of Florida's Anthropology Section for osteological examination. This specialized analysis eventually confirmed the victim's identity as Dennie Keith Cayton.
