On the evening of December 28, 2015, the tranquility of Southeast Washington, D.C., was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 5:35 p.m., 34-year-old Darnell Antonio Mayfield was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds in the 2300 block of Hartford Street, SE. Despite the prompt response of emergency services, Mayfield succumbed to his injuries, leaving a community in mourning and a family devastated.
Immediate Response and Investigation
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) swiftly initiated a homicide investigation, appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of those responsible. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to an arrest and conviction in connection with Mayfield's murder.
