On the evening of Monday, September 2, 2002, at approximately 7:47 pm, the tranquility of Southeast Washington, D.C., was shattered by a violent crime. In front of Johnny’s Sub Shop, located at 4137 Wheeler Road, SE, 33-year-old Carlton Crawley was fatally shot. Despite the presence of potential witnesses in the area, the assailant managed to flee the scene, leaving behind a community in mourning and a case that would remain unsolved for over two decades.
Immediate Response and Investigation
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) swiftly responded to the incident, cordoning off the area to collect evidence and interview bystanders.
