On September 17, 2016, the charred remains of 15-year-old Demetrius Griffin Jr. were discovered in a burning garbage can in Chicago's West Side Austin neighborhood. A freshman at Steinmetz College Prep, Demetrius was known for his punctuality and adherence to a strict curfew. His sudden disappearance and the gruesome nature of his death sent shockwaves through his family and the community.

The Night of the Tragedy

Demetrius was last seen walking home from school with a female friend on the evening of September 16, 2016. When he failed to return home by his usual time, his mother, Polly Sykes, immediately sensed something was amiss.
