On the evening of October 5, 2015, the lives of two young women, Makayla Mitchell, 18, and her best friend, Coriana Johnson, 17, were tragically cut short. The duo had ventured to the vicinity of 21st Street and Berwick Avenue, near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, to meet someone. After waiting for approximately 20 minutes, they were ambushed. An assailant approached their vehicle and fired multiple shots, resulting in the immediate deaths of both women.
