Elvia embarked on a journey from Mexico to the United States, aiming to reach Houston, Texas. She crossed into Texas through Reynosa, Tamaulipas, with the assistance of a guide. After crossing the border, she contacted her family to inform them of her arrival in Texas.
Following her initial communication, Elvia was reportedly detained by the guide who assisted her crossing. This was the last known contact she had with anyone.
