The Mysterious Disappearance
On February 11, 1977, 23-year-old Gayle Adele Sorensen left her workplace in Hutchinson, Kansas, to run errands for her employer. When she failed to return, her concerned coworkers contacted her husband, who subsequently reported her missing. Later that evening, her vehicle was discovered in the parking lot of a Dillons grocery store at 734 East 4th Street. The car was unlocked, with the keys still in the ignition, but both Gayle and her purse were missing.
Eyewitness Account
A witness later reported seeing a woman, believed to be Gayle, sitting in the driver's seat of the car, conversing and laughing with an unidentified white male standing outside the driver's door. The man was described as being between 26 to 28 years old, approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall, with shaggy brown hair reaching collar length or longer.
