Born on October 20, 1974, in Miami, Florida, Shannon excelled academically and athletically, serving as the president of her junior and senior classes and captaining the debate team at Southwest Miami High School. Her aspirations included joining the Navy's Judge Advocate General's Corps and eventually serving on the Supreme Court. However, her promising journey was abruptly halted on March 26, 1994, when she vanished from Atlanta, Georgia, leaving a void that still resonates today.

On that fateful Saturday, Shannon reported for her part-time job as a scorekeeper at the now-defunct Softball Country Club on North Decatur Road in Atlanta. She arrived around 8:40 a.m. and worked until approximately 12:40 p.m. After her shift, she was seen purchasing a soft drink at a nearby Citgo gas station.
