On March 18, 2013, the city of San Bernardino, California, was shaken by the tragic death of 18-year-old Semaj James'z Lavender. Born on July 18, 1994, in Fontana, California, Semaj was a young man with aspirations and dreams, residing in Lancaster at the time of his untimely passing. His death not only devastated his family and friends but also left the community grappling with unanswered questions.
The Fateful Evening
The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. as Semaj was a passenger in a vehicle entering a gated apartment complex on the 2900 block of North Loma Avenue in San Bernardino. As the vehicle approached the apartments, gunshots rang out, striking Semaj multiple times in the upper body. The driver, unaware of the severity of the situation, fled the scene and only realized Semaj had been shot moments later. In a desperate attempt to save his life, the driver rushed him to St. Bernardine Medical Center, located a few miles away.
