A Fateful Morning in Allapattah

On May 27, 2017, the Allapattah neighborhood of Miami awoke to a tragic incident that would leave a lasting impact on the community. At approximately 6:50 a.m., a confrontation erupted outside El Nuevo Patio Restaurant & Lounge, located at 1861 NW 22nd Street. The altercation escalated rapidly, culminating in a deadly exchange of gunfire that claimed the life of 34-year-old Leonardo "Leo" Perera.

The Deadly Altercation

Witnesses reported that Perera became embroiled in a heated dispute with a group of men outside the establishment. The verbal confrontation quickly turned violent when firearms were drawn, leading to a chaotic shootout. In the midst of the gunfire, Perera sustained critical injuries.
