In December 2009, Alitha Chism and her four children, then aged between 4 and 11, were residents of Skid Row, one of Los Angeles' most impoverished areas. Despite the challenges, Alitha's resilience shone through. The family had recently transitioned from homelessness to securing a home, a significant milestone that brought hope and stability. During this period, the Union Rescue Mission, a local nonprofit, provided free Christmas gifts to families in need.
