On September 28, 2016, Phoenix police officers responded to a welfare check at the residence of 53-year-old Kimmy Brice, located near 9th Avenue and Buckeye Road. Concerned neighbors had reported not seeing Brice for several days, prompting the authorities to investigate. Upon entering the home, officers discovered Brice deceased from a gunshot wound, marking the beginning of a complex and unresolved murder case.
Immediate Suspicions and Investigation
As the investigation unfolded, attention quickly turned to 23-year-old Yaneli Medina, also known by the aliases "Nelly" or "Dollar." Medina was believed to have been in a long-term relationship with Brice. According to reports, family and friends of Medina informed the police that she had confessed to them about killing Brice.
