On June 30, 2014, at approximately 10:30 p.m., a tragic shooting occurred in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood, specifically in the 600 block of East 50th Place. Seventeen-year-old Michael Patton was fatally shot in the chest, while a 15-year-old boy, believed to be his brother, sustained a gunshot wound to the arm. The incident took place just four blocks from President Barack Obama's Chicago residence, highlighting the gravity of the situation.
Eyewitness Account
Vincent Johnson, a resident of the neighborhood, recounted the events of that night. Initially mistaking the gunshots for sounds from a thunderstorm, Johnson soon realized the severity of the situation. He discovered Michael Patton lying in the flooded street, unresponsive. Johnson's wife promptly called 911 while he attempted to comfort Patton, holding his hand and urging him to hang on until help arrived.
