For over 15 years, Martino graced the airwaves of WIBF Radio Station in Abington Township, Pennsylvania, with his weekly salsa show. His charismatic presence and passion for music made him a household name, endearing him to listeners who eagerly tuned in every week. Beyond his professional achievements, Martino was a devoted family man, cherishing moments with his children and loved ones. His sudden and violent death on September 6, 1989, sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many grappling with the loss of a cherished friend and cultural ambassador.
The Night of the Murder
On that fateful evening, Martino concluded his broadcast around 11:30 PM. As he approached his car in the station's parking lot, he was ambushed. A reverend arriving for his own show discovered Martino lying in a pool of blood, the car's door and hood ominously ajar. Authorities quickly determined that Martino had suffered severe blunt force trauma to the head and a fatal gunshot wound below his left shoulder. The hollow-point bullet retrieved from his body indicated a deliberate intent to kill.
