Discovery in the Park
On the evening of August 13, 2023, as the Outside Lands music festival was concluding in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, a dog walker made a grim discovery near the intersection of Fulton Street and 22nd Avenue. Inside a duffel bag lay the lifeless body of 37-year-old San Francisco resident, Kelly Koike. The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) responded promptly to the scene, marking the beginning of a complex investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.
A Life Marked by Challenges
Kelly's mother, Roya Koike, provided insight into her daughter's life, painting a picture of a woman who faced significant personal struggles. Diagnosed in her teenage years with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and catatonia, Kelly's mental health challenges profoundly impacted her trajectory. Despite these obstacles, she pursued her passion for the culinary arts, graduating from culinary school and working as a concierge in San Francisco.
