A Promising Life Cut Short
On the evening of February 3, 2017, the city of Chicago was shaken by the tragic death of 15-year-old Willie Woodus. While walking in an alley in the 11400 block of South Stewart Street in the Roseland neighborhood, Willie was approached by a gray Pontiac. Without warning, someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking him multiple times in the head, chest, and abdomen. Despite being rushed to Christ Medical Center, Willie was pronounced dead at 6:07 p.m. He resided in the West Pullman neighborhood on the Far South Side.
A Community in Mourning
The senseless murder of such a young individual sent shockwaves through the community. Residents and local leaders expressed their grief and frustration over the ongoing violence plaguing their neighborhoods.
