Early Life and Troubled Upbringing
Robert Clive Napper was born on February 25, 1966, in Erith, southeast London. He was the eldest of four children in a household marred by domestic violence. His father, Brian Napper, a driving instructor, was physically abusive towards his wife, Pauline, and their children. The tumultuous environment led to the couple's divorce when Robert was nine years old. Following the separation, Napper and his siblings were placed in foster care and underwent psychiatric treatment at the Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell for six years .
Psychological Struggles and Behavioral Changes
At the age of 13, Napper experienced a significant psychological shift after being sexually assaulted by a family friend during a camping trip. This traumatic event exacerbated his mental health issues, leading to diagnoses of paranoid schizophrenia and Asperger's syndrome. He became increasingly introverted, obsessive, and reclusive.
