A Family's Holiday Journey
In December 2012, the Salinas family from Coachella, California, embarked on a trip to Mexico to visit relatives for the holidays. The family consisted of 67-year-old Roberto Muñoz, his 72-year-old wife Cecilia Salinas, and their 27-year-old grandson, Armando Salinas. They departed on December 10, 2012, with plans to return home in early January 2013. Their journey took them through the state of Chihuahua, including the city of Ciudad Juárez, known for its challenges with crime and safety.
The Last Known Contact
The family's last known communication occurred on January 3, 2013, as they prepared to return to the United States. After this date, all contact ceased. Family members in the U.S. grew increasingly concerned when they couldn't reach Roberto, Cecilia, or Armando. Attempts to call their cell phones were unsuccessful, as the devices appeared to be turned off.
