Born on February 19, 1974, in Clarksville, Arkansas, April Beth Pitzer faced numerous challenges from a young age. Raised primarily by relatives, she reunited with her mother, Gloria Denton, at 17. At 22, a DUI arrest led her to become a confidential informant, infiltrating a drug ring to avoid charges. This decision would profoundly impact her future.
Seeking a fresh start, April moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where she married Chase Pitzer and had two daughters. However, her past resurfaced when she was summoned back to Arkansas to testify against the drug ring she had infiltrated. Her testimony led to multiple convictions but also exposed her identity, resulting in paranoia and a bipolar disorder diagnosis. These challenges strained her marriage, leading to divorce and loss of custody of her children.
In 2003, April relocated to Newberry Springs, California, with John Lopez. The relationship ended, leaving her homeless and struggling with untreated bipolar disorder. She confided in her mother about her hardships, expressing a desire to return home. On June 28, 2004, an acquaintance claimed to have dropped her off at a bus station in Newberry Springs for her journey back to Arkansas. She never arrived, and her whereabouts remain unknown.
In September 2004, a cryptic message was found in an Oregon truck stop restroom: "Want to find a missing girl from Arkansas? I-15, 3 miles east of Barstow." This led authorities to search the specified area, but no significant evidence was found.
