On the morning of May 26, 1990, Marlene Warren, a 40-year-old mother of two, was at her home in Wellington, Florida, with her 21-year-old son, Joe Ahrens, and his friends. Their peaceful morning was disrupted when a person dressed as a clown, carrying balloons and flowers, approached their front door. Marlene, who had a fondness for clowns, opened the door and remarked, "How pretty!" In a horrifying turn, the clown pulled out a gun and shot her in the face before calmly walking back to a white Chrysler LeBaron and driving away.
