On March 8, 2024, 31-year-old Peter Michael Martin was last seen at his residence in the Mahnomen neighborhood of the Fond du Lac Reservation near Cloquet, Minnesota. A member of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, Peter's sudden disappearance has left his family and community in distress, prompting extensive search efforts and ongoing investigations.
Immediate Response and Search Efforts
Upon realizing Peter was missing, his family contacted Jessica Smith, a legal advocate for missing and murdered Indigenous people. Smith promptly organized search efforts, creating posters and rallying community support. Volunteers and law enforcement gathered at the Brookston Community Center to coordinate search-and-rescue missions, covering extensive areas of the reservation.
