On December 2, 2023, at approximately 4:00 PM, Brian Erickson, a 40-year-old resident of Healy Lake, Alaska, embarked on what was intended to be a routine trip. He departed from the village on a green, open-cab Polaris Ranger side-by-side vehicle, heading towards the Healy Lake Winter Road access point. The journey, typically spanning about two hours, was expected to conclude around 6:00 PM. However, when Erickson failed to meet a friend as planned, concerns began to mount.
Alarming Discoveries Prompt Immediate Action
The following day, December 3, at 1:30 PM, the Alaska State Troopers received a distressing report regarding Erickson's unexplained absence. Compounding the urgency, a pilot flying over the area reported sighting a side-by-side vehicle submerged in the icy waters of the Tanana River, near Erickson's intended route.
