Jessie Kay Peters was a vibrant 14-year-old girl from Glendora, California. Born on July 29, 1981, she was described by her family as kind, religious, and full of life. Raised by her aunts in the South Bay area, Jessie attended Hermosa Valley School before moving in with her mother and older brother at the age of 12. She had a love for flowers, animals, and school, embodying the innocence and curiosity characteristic of adolescence.

The Day Jessie Vanished

On March 29, 1996, Jessie was last seen at her home in Glendora. Her mother, Cheryle Peters, had left for work that morning, leaving Jessie alone. When Cheryle returned, Jessie was gone. Initially, both law enforcement and her family believed she had run away, possibly remaining in the local area. However, Jessie had taken no clothing or personal items with her, and there were no signs of her whereabouts in the following days.

Unraveling the Truth

Years later, investigators began to suspect that Jessie had been abducted and murdered on the day of her disappearance. Attention turned to Michael Forrest Thornton and Janeen Marie Snyder, a couple later convicted of the 2001 murder of 16-year-old Michelle Curran. During the penalty phase of their trial, a psychiatric expert testified that Snyder had confessed to luring Jessie from her home, after which she and Thornton drowned her in a bathtub, dismembered her body, and disposed of the remains in the Pacific Ocean.

Connections and Suspicions

Thornton had been Cheryle Peters' employer at a chain of hair salons called "The Fixx." On the day Jessie disappeared, Cheryle had quit her job at the salon. Investigators believe that Thornton and Snyder targeted Jessie due to Thornton's obsession with teenage girls, using Snyder to lure her away under false pretenses.
