Theresa Ann Bier was born on April 16, 1971, in Fresno, California. Her early life was marked by instability and abuse. Reports indicate that her mother, Shirley, inflicted severe physical harm on Theresa during her infancy, leading to multiple injuries, including a broken leg and ribs. As a result, child protective services intervened, placing Theresa and her siblings into foster care. Despite these interventions, Theresa's life remained tumultuous, with subsequent placements exposing her to further neglect and abuse.
Eventually, Theresa was placed under the guardianship of her uncle, John "Blind Johnny" Richmond, in Fresno. Despite his moniker, some believed Richmond retained partial vision. His household was far from a safe haven; allegations suggest that Theresa was subjected to further abuse, including being forced to miss school to care for Richmond's children and enduring sexual exploitation by Richmond and his associates.
In early June 1987, 16-year-old Theresa planned a camping trip with 43-year-old Russell "Skip" Welch, a neighbor and self-proclaimed Bigfoot enthusiast. Welch, known for his obsession with the mythical creature and his methamphetamine use, convinced Theresa to accompany him to the Sierra Nevada Mountains in search of Bigfoot. On June 1, Welch picked up Theresa under the pretense of taking her to school. Instead, they traveled to the Shuteye Peak area, approximately 25 miles northeast of Bass Lake.
Theresa was last seen around 7:20 p.m. on June 1, 1987. When Welch returned to Fresno days later without her, he provided conflicting accounts of her disappearance. Initially, he claimed she had run away; later, he alleged that she had been abducted by Bigfoot. Authorities were skeptical of his varying stories. Search efforts in the Shuteye Peak area yielded no evidence of Theresa's whereabouts. ...Read More
