A Journey Interrupted: The Disappearance of Ali Kenani
In May 2019, Ali Lazem Kenani, a 58-year-old man from Lincoln, Nebraska, embarked on a cross-country trip to visit his child in California. His journey took a mysterious turn when he was last seen on May 11, 2019, at a convenience store near Aspen, Colorado. After seeking assistance from local authorities in Basalt due to becoming lost, he was believed to be back on track. However, two days later, his vehicle was found abandoned near the Capitol Peak Trailhead, in a remote area close to Snowmass Village . Despite organized searches, no trace of Kenani has been found since.
The Search Efforts and Challenges
Following the discovery of Kenani's abandoned vehicle, the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Mountain Rescue Aspen, initiated search operations to locate him. These efforts included ground and aerial searches; however, they were hampered by adverse weather conditions, including snow, which impeded progress.
