The Day It All Changed: February 16, 2020

On February 16, 2020, Nicholas Samson Rice, a 47-year-old man from Black Canyon City, Arizona, was involved in a vehicular accident on Interstate 17, approximately one mile north of the Sunset Point Rest Stop. Following the crash, both Nicholas and his front-seat passenger exited the vehicle and proceeded eastward into a vast open field. Their journey led them to the edge of a large canyon near a mine. According to the passenger, Nicholas sustained an ankle injury during the crash, rendering him unable to continue. The passenger then navigated through the canyon to the Sunset Point Rest Stop, where a passerby provided him with a ride home. Nicholas was last believed to be near the canyon, but his exact location remains unknown.

A Man with Distinctive Features

Nicholas Rice is described as a white male with blond or strawberry-colored hair and hazel eyes. At the time of his disappearance, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed approximately 170 pounds. He has a snake tattoo on his left arm, a large tattoo across his stomach, and a surgical scar on his torso from a kidney removal. He was possibly wearing jeans and a gray hoodie when he went missing.

The Search Efforts

The Yavapai County Sheriff's Office has been actively involved in the search for Nicholas Rice. Despite extensive efforts, including searches of the area surrounding the crash site and the canyon near the mine, no trace of Nicholas has been found. The challenging terrain and vastness of the area have complicated search operations.
