His disappearance occurred when he was reported lost overboard from the commercial fishing vessel Southern Seas, approximately 40 miles south of Sitkinak Island.

On that ill-fated day, the Southern Seas was navigating the challenging waters south of Sitkinak Island, an area notorious for its unpredictable weather and rough seas.
