On October 1, 2016, 35-year-old Bradley J. Hale left his home in Bellingham, Washington, in a state of distress. Described as panicked and mentally unwell, he departed without any supplies, taking only his cell phone and the clothes he was wearing: a Carhartt jacket, blue jeans, and black-and-white Adidas shoes .
The following day, Bradley contacted his wife around 5:00 p.m., stating that he was lost in the woods and wanted to come home. This was the last known communication from him.
Investigators traced Bradley's cell phone signal to the area near the Plantation Rifle Range off Samish Way. His vehicle was discovered parked at the North Lake Samish Shell station, situated in the same vicinity . Despite multiple search efforts, including those by Whatcom County Search and Rescue, no trace of Bradley was found in the surrounding forested areas.
Bradley had a history of depression, anxiety, and alcoholism. Prior to his disappearance, he had expressed suicidal thoughts and was experiencing symptoms consistent with delirium tremens, a severe form of alcohol withdrawal .
