Carol Marlene Ferguson, born on June 3, 1934, was an 83-year-old resident of Bremerton, Washington. Known for her independent spirit and love for nature, Carol led a reclusive life, often immersing herself in the serene landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Her passion for hiking, particularly in the Olympic National Park area, was well-known among those who knew her. Despite her age, she remained active, frequently exploring the rugged trails of the region.
On September 26, 2017, Carol canceled plans with a friend, marking the last known contact anyone had with her. Neighbors noted the sudden absence of her and her distinctive red 2000 Ford Ranger pickup truck, which bore numerous stickers and magnets on its rear bumper and tailgate. Concern grew as days passed without any word from Carol, prompting the issuance of a Silver Alert and the initiation of search efforts.
On October 11, 2017, a significant breakthrough occurred when Carol's pickup truck was found abandoned at the Putvin Trailhead off Forest Service Road 2500 in Mason County, Washington. This trailhead serves as an entry point to the Olympic National Forest, aligning with Carol's known hiking interests. The location of the vehicle suggested she may have embarked on a hike in the area, but there were no signs of her presence beyond the parked truck.
Following the discovery of her vehicle, extensive search-and-rescue operations were launched. Crews, including tracking dogs, scoured the surrounding areas, particularly focusing on the Lena Lake region near the Putvin Trailhead. Despite these efforts, no trace of Carol was found. The search was eventually called off after covering approximately two miles of the trail without any leads....Read More
