A Fateful Voyage: The Sinking of the No Limits

On November 1, 2014, the No Limits, a 45-foot lobster fishing vessel, embarked on what was intended to be a routine day of hauling traps off the coast of Matinicus Island, Maine. Aboard were Captain Christopher Hutchinson, 27-year-old crew member Tomas Hammond, and 15-year-old Tyler Sawyer. As the day progressed, weather conditions deteriorated rapidly. The vessel was struck by a series of large waves, causing it to capsize approximately 12 miles southwest of Matinicus Island. Hutchinson managed to escape the overturned vessel and was later rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard. Despite extensive search efforts covering about 130 square miles over 17 hours, Hammond and Sawyer were never found and are presumed dead.
