A Restless Morning in Kihei
On the early morning of January 24, 2012, 53-year-old Torry Jim Durrell of Kihei, Hawaii, found himself unable to sleep. At approximately 2:00 a.m., he contacted a co-worker, mentioning his insomnia and his decision to go kayaking to clear his mind . This call would be the last confirmed communication from Durrell.
A Final Sighting at Sea
Later that morning, around 8:15 a.m., two paddle-boarders encountered Durrell about a mile offshore between Kihei and Maalaea.
