A Routine Drop-Off Turns into a Nightmare

On March 17, 2019, 37-year-old Tiffany Lynette Garza was last seen being dropped off at a Dollar General store located at Stacey Road and State Highway 16, just north of Poteet, Texas . Her mother, Lilly Morua, reported her missing on April 26, 2019, after not hearing from her for over a month . Garza's sudden disappearance alarmed her family and friends, prompting an immediate search and investigation by local authorities.

Early Investigations and Disturbing Discoveries

In July 2019, investigators received an audio recording suggesting that Garza had been murdered at a residence on the 600 block of Bocawood Drive in the Shalimar Subdivision, north of Poteet . Upon searching the property, authorities discovered significant blood evidence from two individuals and a burn pit containing human bones and bone fragments . The remains were sent to Texas State University and the University of North Texas for analysis; however, researchers were unable to extract DNA from the charred bones .

Identifying the Victim Through DNA Evidence

Despite the inability to recover DNA from the bones, investigators tested the blood found at the scene against Garza's relatives and confirmed that it matched her DNA . The other blood sample belonged to the suspect, Jeffery Lee Devorah, 43, of San Antonio . Authorities believe that Garza was murdered between March 28 and April 4, 2019 .

Arrest and Charges Against the Suspect

Devorah was first interviewed by police after an unrelated arrest in 2019, during which he admitted that Garza had been living at the Bocawood residence but denied any knowledge of her disappearance . After gathering sufficient evidence, including DNA matches and witness interviews, investigators filed a murder complaint against Devorah . He was arrested on March 15, 2023, and is currently being held at the Atascosa County Jail with a $500,000 bond ....Read More
