On the steamy morning of September 3, 2010, Robert Schultze, aged 63, launched his 20-foot Aquasport fishing boat, The Cat’s Meow, into the coastal waters off Portsmouth Harbor. He embarked on what he described as a routine day of fishing for stripers and bluefish—a pastime he relished throughout his life. That day had all the markings of countless others he’d taken: calm seas, early morning sun, and the promise of familiar waters.
A Gentleman of the Coast
Described by friends and family as fiercely independent, Schultze was raised in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and grew up fishing lobster in Rye Harbor. Towering at over six feet eight inches, he was a standout basketball player in high school.
