Jani Jo Thompson—also known by names such as Jan Scharf, Jani Jo Bautista, and Jan Sharpe—was a 45‑year‑old emergency room nurse at UC Davis Medical Center when she vanished from Cameron Park, California, in mid‑May 2002. Known for her brown hair, blue eyes, and distinctive pierced ears, she stood about 5′5″ tall and weighed around 140 pounds.
