The Fateful Day at Sea
On Thursday, October 9, 2008, fifty-year-old Bruce Robert Weaver set out for a routine fishing trip alongside five companions. They launched from the Indian River Inlet near Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The day turned harrowing when their vessel was caught off guard by a large wave near the Delaware Bay buoy. The sudden impact swamped the boat almost immediately, and it began taking on water at an alarming rate.
The Vessel Capsizes
Almost instantly, the craft sank, sending Bruce and his fellow anglers into the choppy autumn waters. The companions held on, fighting exhaustion and cold as they awaited rescue. Nearly eight hours later, a passing vessel noticed the stranded group and alerted the U.S. Coast Guard.
