A Missionary’s Double Life
Nathan Leuthold was a respected Baptist missionary from Peoria, Illinois, known for his devout faith and international outreach. He and his wife, Denise, had spent years working as missionaries in Lithuania, where they met Aina Dobilaite, a young Lithuanian woman whom they later sponsored to study in the United States. Their seemingly devout and altruistic life masked a darker reality that would culminate in a tragic and shocking crime.
On February 14, 2013, Valentine's Day, Denise Leuthold was found dead in her parents' home, shot in the head. Nathan reported the incident as a burglary gone wrong, but investigators quickly grew suspicious of inconsistencies in his story and the crime scene. The house showed signs of a staged break-in, and Nathan's behavior raised red flags for law enforcement.
