On the evening of March 8, 2015, Chicago police officers responded to a well-being check at a residence in the 6500 block of South Kimbark Avenue, located in the city's Woodlawn neighborhood. The call had been placed by Steven Griffin's father, concerned after a troubling conversation with his son two days prior. Upon arrival and receiving no response, officers forcibly entered the home. Inside, they discovered the lifeless bodies of Linda Soto, 25, and Steven Griffin, 17.
