On the evening of May 9, 2019, the tranquility of Southeast Washington, D.C., was shattered by the sound of gunfire. At approximately 5:16 p.m., 28-year-old Mark Steven Milline Jr. was walking in the 800 block of Xenia Street when he was brutally attacked. Responding to reports of shots fired, members of the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District arrived to find Milline unconscious, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the swift response and subsequent transport to a local hospital, all life-saving efforts failed, and Milline was pronounced dead.
In the days following the murder, detectives released surveillance footage that captured the harrowing moments leading up to Milline's death. The video shows Milline walking along the sidewalk when two individuals, clad in hoodies and gloves, emerge from a green BMW with handguns drawn. Without hesitation, they open fire, chasing Milline down the street before fleeing the scene in the awaiting vehicle. This brazen act, committed in broad daylight, left the community in shock and mourning.
The impact of this senseless act reverberated deeply within Milline's family. His parents, Mark Sr. and Volta Milline, spoke of their son's struggles and aspirations. "He was a young man who was struggling, trying to make it, trying to find a job, trying to do the right thing," Volta Milline shared. The family, grappling with profound grief, has been vocal in their plea for anyone with information to come forward, hoping to find closure and justice for their beloved son.
In response to the tragedy, the Metropolitan Police Department intensified their efforts to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. A reward of up to $25,000 was offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible. The recovered BMW provided a critical lead, yet the suspects remained at large. The community, while shaken, rallied together, emphasizing the need for collective action to combat such violence and support the grieving family. ...Read More
