The Fateful Evening

On the evening of November 16, 2017, the quiet streets of Birmingham's Woodlawn neighborhood were shattered by the sound of gunfire. Residents near 9th Avenue North and 51st Street North were jolted from their routines as bullets pierced the air. When the chaos subsided, two individuals lay lifeless beside a bullet-riddled vehicle: 17-year-old Pervis Andre Polk Jr. and 51-year-old Jocklyn Manley.

The Victims

Pervis Andre Polk Jr., born on December 9, 1999, was a young man with his entire future ahead of him. Described by those who knew him as full of potential, his untimely death left a void in the community. Alongside him, Jocklyn Manley, a 51-year-old resident, also lost her life in the tragic incident.
