On the evening of December 9, 2013, the city of Wilmington, Delaware, was shaken by the tragic loss of 17-year-old Lamar Wilmer. Known to his neighbors as a young man who was beginning to find his path, Lamar's life was abruptly ended in a senseless act of violence.
The Fateful Encounter
That night, Lamar was at home with his family on the 2600 block of North Van Buren Street. Two young males arrived at the front door, asking for "Mar." Recognizing them, Lamar stepped outside to converse. Shortly after, two additional males joined the group. Within minutes, an unforeseen act of violence occurred: one of the individuals drew a handgun and shot Lamar.
