A Life on the Streets
Eddie "Tennessee" Tate was a well-known figure among San Francisco's homeless community. Having moved to the city after the 1989 earthquake, he earned his nickname from his upbringing in rural Tennessee. Eddie was resourceful and streetwise, often seen working on bikes and other appliances from his mobile shelter. Despite his circumstances, he was described as a kind man who could fix anything. His life was documented in part through the work of photographer Robert Gumpert, who captured Eddie's experiences in the Old San Bruno County Jail in 2006. Eddie had a challenging upbringing, with early exposure to substances and a turbulent school life. Despite these hardships, he endeavored to improve himself, even working towards a high school diploma during his incarceration.

In the years following the murders, Lindsay's mother, Carrie McCollum, has been relentless in her pursuit of justice for her daughter and Eddie.
