A Promising Life Cut Short

On April 23, 2016, the Jacksonville community was shaken by the tragic death of 19-year-old Jonah Marcel Golden. Born on August 20, 1996, in Orange Park, Florida, Jonah was the eldest of four children. He attended Atlantic Coast High School, where he was a member of the Stingray Football family from 2010 to 2013. Known for his charismatic personality and infectious smile, Jonah was a hardworking individual who balanced his time between roles as a laborer for Package Sanitation Services Inc. and a line cook at Steak 'n Shake. His dedication to his family and his community made his untimely death all the more devastating.

The Fateful Party

The events leading up to Jonah's death began on the evening of April 22, 2016, when he attended a house party in the Ortega Farms neighborhood of Jacksonville. The gathering, initially intended for 25 to 30 guests, quickly grew beyond control as more attendees arrived throughout the night. Neighbors, disturbed by the noise and congestion, called the police multiple times. Officers responded to the scene but did not disperse the party, as it had not yet escalated to a point warranting such action.
