The Fateful Night
In the early hours of March 2, 1996, Anchorage, Alaska, was shrouded in the stillness typical of a late winter night. At approximately 3:00 a.m., a sudden eruption of violence shattered the calm near the intersection of 5th and H Street. Twenty-year-old Joseph Bruce Massey was a passenger in a blue Nissan four-door sedan when an altercation with occupants of another vehicle escalated, culminating in Massey being fatally shot in the head. The assailants fled the scene, leaving behind a community grappling with shock and grief.
The Vehicles and Suspects
Witnesses reported seeing multiple vehicles in the vicinity at the time of the shooting. Descriptions included a red and black Ford full-sized Bronco, a silver and grey Ford Contour, and a red and white Ford Bronco. It was noted that a black male from the red and black Ford Bronco initiated the confrontation that led to the shooting.
