A Familiar Face in the Community

Todd Colin Ledbetter, born on February 28, 1964, in Pontiac, Illinois, was a well-known figure in the Champaign-Urbana area. Despite facing the challenges of homelessness, Todd maintained a presence that resonated with many in the community. His life, though marked by hardship, was intertwined with the fabric of the city, making his untimely death all the more poignant.

The Night of the Tragedy

On the evening of July 1, 2020, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North State Street in response to a reported robbery. Upon arrival, they discovered Todd unresponsive near a park bench adjacent to West Side Park. He had been severely beaten and showed no signs of life.
