A Promising Life Cut Short
On the evening of February 9, 2017, the life of 17-year-old Alvin Stoll was tragically cut short in Chicago's Jefferson Park neighborhood. Standing in an alley near the 5300 block of West Foster Avenue around 9 p.m., Alvin was accompanied by another individual when a dark-colored sedan approached. Without warning, someone inside the vehicle opened fire, striking Alvin in the abdomen. Despite being rushed to Lutheran General Hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
A Community in Shock
The murder of Alvin sent shockwaves through the typically serene Jefferson Park community. Notably, this incident marked the first homicide in the 16th District since late 2015 and was only the fourth since 2010. Alderman John Arena of the 45th Ward expressed the community's collective disbelief, stating, "This murder is particularly shocking as the 16th District has one of the lowest murder rates in the city."
