A Promising Young Life Cut Short
On the evening of December 11, 2016, the quiet neighborhood of Chevy Chase in Northwest Washington, D.C., was shaken by a tragic event. Between 7:00 and 9:00 PM, 21-year-old Grant Dosunmu was found fatally shot inside his car, a Jaguar, parked on the street in the 6900 block of 32nd Street NW, just two blocks from his family home. A graduate of the District's flagship public high school, Grant was known for his bright future and close ties to the community. His untimely death left family, friends, and neighbors in deep mourning.
A Family's Double Tragedy
The Dosunmu family was enduring another hardship at the time of Grant's murder. His father, Razak Dosunmu, had recently been convicted on two counts of illegal gratuity and was sentenced to 15 months in prison on November 18, 2016, less than a month before Grant's death. Razak was scheduled to begin his sentence on January 3, 2017. In light of the family's tragedy, his attorney filed a motion to allow Razak to remain free pending appeal or, alternatively, to extend his report date by three weeks.
