A Tragic Evening in Deanwood: The Unsolved Murders of Jobe McDowney and Desimon Richardson

A Community Shattered by Violence

On the evening of April 4, 2019, the Deanwood neighborhood in Northeast Washington, D.C., was rocked by a violent incident that left two young men dead and a community grappling with grief and unanswered questions. At approximately 8:15 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 4900 block of Nash Street NE. Upon arrival, they discovered 23-year-old Jobe McDowney and 21-year-old Desimon Richardson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the stairwell of an apartment building. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

Jobe McDowney, a resident of Southeast D.C., was remembered by family and friends as a hardworking individual with a generous spirit.
