A Promising Life Cut Short

In the early hours of December 17, 2017, 15-year-old Brian Jasso was assisting his stepfather, Erik Campeano, with their routine newspaper delivery on Chicago's Southwest Side. Brian had taken on this responsibility to earn money for his sister's birthday gift and to take his girlfriend on a date. This act of familial devotion and youthful ambition was abruptly ended when Brian was fatally shot in the head during their route. The incident occurred near the intersection of West 47th Street and Leamington Avenue in the LeClaire Courts neighborhood, minutes north of Chicago’s Midway International Airport. The assailants, driving a white vehicle, rear-ended the family's Honda CR-V, and upon Brian and Erik attempting to evade, opened fire, tragically ending Brian's life.

A Family's Heartbreak

Brian's mother, Carmen Manzano, was left devastated by the loss of her son. She described Brian as a quiet individual with no enemies and no involvement in gangs. His motivation for helping with the newspaper deliveries was to earn money to buy his sister a birthday present and to take his girlfriend out on a date.
