Born on April 20, 1992, Kenyetta Daiarra Nicholson-Stanley was a vibrant 17-year-old senior at Hyde Leadership Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. Known for her love of Bible study, basketball, football, and music, she had a passion for rapping and dancing, particularly a style known as "beating your feet." Her family and friends remember her as beautiful, talented, kind-hearted, and outspoken, with an inquisitive nature and a generous spirit. Kenyetta was eagerly preparing for college, following in the footsteps of her mother and brother. Her sudden and violent death on October 9, 2009, left a void in the hearts of those who knew her.
The Tragic Incident
On the evening of October 8, 2009, at approximately 8:08 p.m., Kenyetta was sitting on a playground in the 500 block of Edgewood Street NE, within the Edgewood Terrace housing complex. Two masked men approached and opened fire, aiming at a uniformed security guard patrolling the area. The assailants missed their intended target, and a bullet struck Kenyetta in the head.
