On February 23, 1999, 39-year-old Star Boomer visited Uncle Mike's Bar, located at 49th and Metropolitan in Kansas City, Kansas. She was accompanied by her roommate, Carolyn Marshall, who left after a short while, planning to return later to pick up Star. Witnesses reported that during the evening, Star was involved in a violent altercation with a man known for his history of violent behavior, particularly towards women.
